Read180
Read180 is a Scholastic program which enables students to improve their lexile levels. Following a 20 minute large group instruction, students are split into 3 groups and rotate during the class period – 20 minutes at each of 3 stations.
Materials: Read 180 Book, Writing journal, Response Notebook, Independent Reading Book,
Computer and Read 180 Software, pen or pencil.
Whole Group and Small Group Instruction: – Teacher Directed Instruction
20 Minutes Whole Group at desks and 20 Minutes Small Group at table
Students use RBooks and notebooks and work as in a small group with the teacher at the table by the windows.
Computer Station: 20 Minutes – Technology-Based Instruction
Students use the Software independently, providing them with intensive, individualized skills practice.
The engaging Topic Software, with high-interest video segments, builds background to help students form mental models. The Topic Software provides customized reading instruction and practice with individualized, adjusted support to address each student’s needs.
Students can work on Reading Zone, Word Zone, Spelling Zone, Writing Zone, or Success Zone and will track their success with daily logs
Independent Reading Station: 20 Minutes – Read 180 Paperback Libraries
Students build reading comprehension skills through modeled and independent reading of the READ 180 Paperbacks.
Each student took the Scholastic Reading Inventory and received a Lexile score to match their ability. The book chosen for independent reading must be within a range of 100 points below to 50 points above their Lexile score.
Each student must complete a reading log providing details about what they have read and page numbers.
Whole Group Wrap Up: 5 Minutes
Students discuss as a class some aspect of the day's lesson.
